What’s important When choosing 315/40 R21 tyres?

The first number up to the slash indicates the width of the tyre in millimetres. The most popular tyre widths are usually between 185 mm – 275 mm.

The second number between the slash and the R indicates the sidewall height of the tyre, but note that this value is given as a percentage of the width of the tyre. example: 274/40R20 and 315/35R20 tyres will have the same overall circumference and sidewall height.

The third letter R means that this is a radial tyre, there is also a ZR to indicate that the tyre has an increased speed index and can be safely used at high speeds. In recent times, this ZR designation has been used quite rarely.

The fourth, last two digits indicate the diameter of the tyre in inches and it is important here that the last 315/40 R21 of the size matches the size of the rim of your car.
