The third letter R means that this is a radial tyre, there is also a ZR to indicate that the tyre has an increased speed index and can be safely used at high speeds. In recent times, this ZR designation has been used quite rarely.

The fourth, last two digits indicate the diameter of the tyre in inches and it is important here that the last 275/40 R18 of the size matches the size of the rim of your car.
