Winter and summer tyres are products made specifically for cold and hot weather. In recent years, when Latvia has had neither distinctly cold winters nor noticeably hot summers, it might seem that switching between winter and summer tyres is not justified. However, it is imperative to have the right tyres for each season. All-season tyres are a product that combines both the positive features of winter tyres and the necessary characteristics of summer tyres. These tyres can be driven all year round and are recommended for anyone who does not want to change tyres at the end of each season.
If you need all-season tyres, Cordiant all-season tyres are a good place to start. The construction and design of these tyres has been created with the idea of incorporating the summer and winter tyre characteristics needed for the Latvian climate, making Cordiant all-season tyres a reliable choice for year-round use.
M+S (Mud + Snow), also known as AllSeasons or All weather. These tyres are designed for use all year round.
There are pros and cons to these tyres. They are usually chosen by motorists who use their cars relatively little. It should be noted that the M+S designation does not necessarily mean that the tyres are suitable for the Latvian climate.
This is a case where we recommend that customers rely on the knowledge of professionals. MMK Riepu Serviss experts do not recommend driving with Cordiant all-season tyresin winter conditions in certain situations if your driving habits are not suitable.
All-season tyres are designed for use in climates where winter temperatures are around 0 °C – more so in Western and Central Europe. Although we are seeing warmer winters in Latvia, this type of tyre will be suitable mainly for drivers who make relatively few short journeys.
Although all-season tyres are allowed all year round in Latvia, MMK Riepu Serviss experts do not recommend them for motorists who drive their cars regularly and frequently. All-season tyres could be a great alternative for car owners who use their car infrequently, for example only at weekends to go visiting or shopping, choosing other transport on winter days when it snows heavily or the roads are heavily icy.
They are suitable for mild climates in winter when temperatures are around 0 °C, or for driving in town and on roads that are well maintained and treated with special materials.
A good choice for customers who do not use their car or use it little during the winter months. In early spring and late autumn, these tyres can be even more reliable than summer tyres.
These tyres will have a harder compound than winter tyres and the tread will be designed to achieve the optimum combination of different characteristics. It should be noted that these tyres have a lower performance on snow and ice than winter tyres.
When considering the use of all-season tyres over several seasons, it should not be forgotten that the quality and wear of such tyres should be checked at the beginning of each season. All-season tyres must still have the same tread depths as specified for each season in national legislation. If your tyres are close to the permitted tread depth at the start of the season, MMK Tyre Service recommends that you think about replacing them early.
In addition, tyre wear should be measured for each tyre, as different tyres may develop different wear depending on the condition of your car. All-season tyres that have been left for long periods in unsuitable conditions, hot or humid conditions are also not recommended. This increases the likelihood of tyres becoming dry or otherwise losing their structure, which increases the risk that they may not be able to withstand sharp objects and may wear out more quickly.
