Bridgestone Blizzak ws80 optimised rubber compound
The Bridgestone Blizzark ws80’s rubber compound features NanoProTech technology, which allows the tyre to remain flexible over a wide temperature range, but also Bridgestone’s own invention – Multicell technology. The special Multicell compound causes the tyre to dry the road contact surface by absorbing moisture. A dry contact patch, in tandem with a flexible tyre, significantly shortens stopping distances, one of the most, if not the most, important aspect in winter emergencies.
Although the tyre is studless, the nano-particles embedded in the rubber perform a similar function, cutting into the ice together with the sipes, thus providing more grip and manoeuvrability.
Bridgestone Blizzak ws80 tread pattern
The optimised tread design further enhances the performance characteristics mentioned above. The tread is directional and symmetrical, with deep drainage grooves between the massive blocks to help keep the contact surface even drier by shedding water and snow.
Thousands of zig-zag sipes are embedded in the tread blocks, arranged densely and in different directions. This helps to avoid unexpected side slides when the car slides into the ice. Compared to the previous model, the number of slats has increased by 20%!
