P Zero Winter equipment
The Pirelli P Zero Winter all-season/winter or M+S tyre model features an advanced asymmetric tread pattern. This design was chosen because it combines optimum driving characteristics for both warm weather and winter driving.
The outer edge of the tread is designed for improved traction and shorter braking distances in snow. This outer edge is armed with an increased number of 3D sipes. Acting like studs, they cut into packed snow and ice with sharp edges that lock into each other, creating a firm grip on slippery surfaces.
The central part of the tread improves stability and reduces the risk of aquaplaning in summer. The vertically spaced tread blocks interlock to form two dense strings of tread blocks. These significantly improve stability and manoeuvrability at high speeds in warm weather. In addition, a drainage or water channel system, developed by Pirelli, is located between the strings. It quickly and efficiently removes water from the grip point, reducing the risk of aquaplaning to a minimum.
The tyre features a wide series of tread blocks on the inner sidewall. This improves tyre performance on dry road surfaces. The reduced number of sipes in these blocks provides increased block stiffness, improving manoeuvrability.
