P ZERO Winter Features
The Pirelli P ZERO Winter all-season/winter tire model features an enhanced asymmetric tread pattern. This design was chosen because it combines optimal driving characteristics for both warm weather and winter driving.
The outer edge of the tread is designed for improved traction and shorter braking distances on snow. This outer edge features an increased number of grooves, or 3D sipes. Acting similarly to studs, these sharp-edged sipes interlock with one another, digging into packed snow and ice to create a firm grip on slippery surfaces.
The central part of the tread improves stability and reduces the risk of hydroplaning in the summer. The vertically arranged tread blocks form two dense rows of tread blocks. These significantly improve stability and maneuverability at high speeds during the warmer months. In addition, a drainage system—developed using Pirelli technology—is positioned between the rows. It quickly and effectively clears water from the contact patch with the road, minimizing the risk of hydroplaning.
A wide row of tread blocks is located on the inner edge of the tire. This improves the tire’s performance on dry road surfaces. The reduced number of sipes in these blocks ensures increased block stiffness, improving handling characteristics.
