X-Ice North 4 features
Michelin X-Ice North 4 features a refined directional tread design with no fewer than 250 new studs per tyre, depending on size. By comparison, a standard studded winter tyre typically has around 100 studs per tyre. Michelin engineers have worked on every detail of this tyre, from the shape and material of the studs to their positioning for better interaction with each other. The shape of the radiuses is inspired by the shape of the radiuses on winter rally cars, providing excellent grip on icy roads even at high speeds. Small damping pads at the base of the calipers reduce noise levels. The rubber compound has also been improved. It's even more flexible and abrasion-resistant thanks to a whole range of the latest chemical compounds. The massive, symmetrically spaced tread blocks also incorporate 3D sipes, which work in tandem with the studs to create traction on ice and help to wick water away from the tyre's contact surface with the road. A new design for the drainage channel system has also been developed, which plays a key role in combating slush or water.
