Description
The Westlake SW658 winter tyre is designed for SUVs and crossovers used mainly in urban areas. Nowadays, these are the majority of cars in urban environments, so it's hard to overestimate the suitability of this model. Especially considering not only the attractive cost, but also the very high technical specifications. These are ensured by the development and manufacture of products using the latest technologies and materials provided by the Chinese company's foreign partners. These include world leaders in the tyre industry.
SW658 main features
- aggressive V-shaped tread for maximum grip on winter roads;
- static, solid longitudinal rib in the centre improves stability, gives faster and more precise tyre response to steering turns, reduces fuel consumption, optimises external pressure distribution across the contact patch;
- the tread's canted profile widens the contact patch, giving it an almost square shape that significantly increases grip;
- more than 5,000 traction edges, made up of numerous sipes, ensure the tyre's stability and reliability on snow and ice;
- the transverse drainage grooves, which are at an acute angle to the movement, allow you to move confidently in adverse road conditions.
SW658 tread characteristics
It's not hard to guess that the Westlake SW658 is designed primarily for use on wintery, snow-covered asphalt roads. We can see this by taking a closer look at its tread design features. It contains a fairly large number of individual blocks spaced relatively close together. Combined with very long and very sloping drainage grooves, this gives the tyre a very aggressive appearance.
SW658 has a wide longitudinal rib in the centre of the tread
One of the main features of the tread design of this tyre is the longitudinal, tyre-spanning rib located right in the middle. This tread element has a relatively large width and is continuous throughout its length. The combination of these factors gives the SW658 a number of significant advantages. Firstly, there is stability and the tyre's excellent response to driver inputs during manoeuvring and cornering. In addition, a rigid, wide rib in the centre of the tread reduces rolling resistance and, by optimising pressure distribution across the contact patch, prevents the occurrence and development of uneven wear.
SW658 shoulder area design
Each of the shoulder zones is a series of independent blocks, located at nearly right angles and varying in size. Combined with a tyre profile at almost 90 degrees, this design on the one hand improves tyre performance during braking and acceleration. On the other hand, it also improves resistance to side-slip. On unpaved snowy roads, the shoulder zone blocks create additional traction edges. With this tyre design, the Westlake SW658 will have no problem tackling deep snow.
SW658 siping performance
The absence of studs didn't stop Westlake's experts from giving the tyre excellent grip performance on slippery roads. This is achieved by the several thousand sharp edges that are formed when the numerous sipes come into contact with the road surface. At the same time, the zigzag shape of the sipes limits the mobility of the blocks, which increases their rigidity and at the same time improves handling when driving on Westlake SW658 tyres.
The efficient Westlake SW658 drainage system
The open tread design of this tyre is characterised by large gaps between the blocks, which themselves create many longitudinal and transverse grooves. In addition, the latter are located at an acute angle to the direction of movement. In combination with the large internal volume, this arrangement of the drainage grooves significantly increases the permeability and at the same time the aquaplaning resistance of the Westlake SW658.
The Westlake SW658 's safety in winter weather and its compliance with countries with compulsory seasonal tyre changes is confirmed by a snowflake marking on a mountain background with three peaks (3PMSF).
