W.drive WY01 Features
The Yokohama W.drive WY01 winter commercial vehicle (bus) tire model features a deep directional tread pattern. The tread block size has been increased. This design combines excellent load-carrying capacity, traction, and maneuverability on snow and slush.
To improve traction on icy road surfaces, hundreds of 3D sipes are integrated into the massive tread blocks. Their operating principle is similar to that of studs. The sipes, with their sharp edges, bite into packed snow and ice and interlock with one another, significantly shortening braking distance and improving acceleration.
The tire’s base incorporates an exceptionally durable carcass reinforced with additional cord or breaker layers. This significantly improves load-carrying capacity and makes the tires more impact-resistant, while also extending their service life.
The durable carcass is encased in a wear-resistant and flexible rubber compound. Thanks to the high concentration of silica in the rubber, it effectively retains its flexibility at low temperatures. A flexible tire provides better traction on the road and wears more evenly.
