Description
The Hankook Winter i*pike RS2 W429 is a winter run-flat tyre designed for passenger transport, like the previous i*pike RS2 of this generation. Comparing the two models, the new one has improved grip on slippery surfaces, improved braking performance and is even more reliable in harsh climates or poor off-road conditions!
Key features of the Winter i*pike RS2 W429
- improved tread pattern with massive blocks in the central part for more stable grip characteristics;
- narrower shoulder blocks improve straight-line performance and make it easier to exit the track or on ruts.
- If the W429 is chosen, the 12 rows of studs ensure high efficiency on icy surfaces;
- improved performance of the drainage channels, as many of them are at an acute angle.
Redesigned tread pattern
The main difference between this tyre and the first generation i*pike RS is its tread pattern. The central part has larger intersecting tread blocks. This significantly improves the distribution of the external load over the contact area with the road, resulting in better adhesion performance. In the shoulder areas, on the contrary, the number of blocks is clearly reduced, to compensate for this the number of blocks has been increased. This solution improves the performance of the tread during longitudinal accelerations and also facilitates situations where it is necessary to get out of snow-covered drifts.
Different types of sipes
Like its predecessor, the tread of this tyre contains several thousand so-called "3D sipes" - narrow slits or slits that create grip in all directions. But at the same time, the shape and layout of these elements have been significantly altered. The central part of the slats is at a sharper angle to the movement. This significantly improves directional stability on slippery roads. Such slats are at a slight angle in the central part. This solution improves straight-ahead traction especially when wet surfaces are in mind, not only by creating traction but also by diverting water to one of the nearby water drains.
Thoughtful arrangement of studs
The next important innovation is the arrangement of the studs. The number of longitudinal rows of studs is not 10 as before, but 12. The studs are closer to the centre of the tread, i.e. more evenly distributed over the entire area. This solution significantly improves grip on icy surfaces. The Hankook Winter i*Pike RS2 W429 has not skimped on studs and is one of the best performing studded tyres in its sector.
