Kumho WinterCraft Ice WI51soft-compound winter tires feature an aggressive, deep tread pattern. This design significantly improves tire traction and handling in harsh winter conditions—deep snow and slush.

The massive V-shaped tread blocks are armed with several thousand tiny notches, or sipes. The sipes function similarly to studs, with hundreds of sharp edges cutting into packed snow and ice, shortening braking distance and making it easier to get started. In addition, the tire’s rubber compound is reinforced with aramid fiber, improving traction and maneuverability while further reducing braking distance.

A range of elastomers has been added to the aramid-reinforced rubber compound. These make the tire soft and flexible. As is well known, a flexible tire provides much better traction on the road and wears more evenly.
